Help Desk and Network Operations Technician Apprentice

The purpose of this role is to help maintain our client’s devices including network configuration, telecommunications, servers and day to day support. The role is both customer facing as well as behind the scenes operations. No two days are the same within the help desk. This job is based at our head office in North Weald but can involve travelling into London, Herts, Essex and Cambridgeshire.

Roles and Responsibilities
Typical roles and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to);

  • Investigating, diagnosing, and solving computer software and hardware faults
  • Responding to client end users first line IT support tickets
  • Responsible for logging, troubleshooting, and resolving new problems and requests
  • Proactive/routine monitoring of backups and systems and testing recovery procedures; speaking to third party suppliers, troubleshooting and arranging for hardware repairs. Ensuring that all IT assets are properly controlled, and software is correctly licensed
  • Documenting changes and solutions
  • Supporting new members of staff provisioning accounts and equipment and performing inductions
  • Installing and configuring computer hardware, software, systems, networks, printers, and scanners
  • Providing project support to the network administrators/other teams 
  • Working closely with our network operations team
  • Server previsioning both Windows and Linux
  • Previsioning of new hardware including telecoms, broadband and computer devices
  • Desired Qualities, Skills and Knowledge
  • Experience of resolving issues efficiently and contributing to the improvement of a company’s IT services
  • Experienced in providing superior customer service and support
  • Experienced in MS servers, Active Directory, IP networking, MS SQL, Windows 10, firewall configuration, VLAN configuration, VoIP
  • Judgement and decision-making skills

Desired Qualifications
  • 5 GCSEs grades A*-C/9-4 or equivalent (including English Language and Maths)

Future prospects

  • The role offers long term security and the opportunity to progress into a permanent position 

Salary, Hours and Benefits

  • £13,000 Annual Wage
  • Monday to Friday
  • Working 8 am – 4pm, 9 am to 5pm or 10am – 6pm (to be discussed with the employer)
  • Potential of out of hours working on project work as required by the busines
  • 20 days a year holiday, plus bank holidays

The Estio Training programme gives people the opportunity to get experience in the IT industry whilst still employed in a real paid job with no cost or debt.

Learners will receive eight weeks of intensive training. Whilst in the workplace, apprentices will also receive continual coaching, help and guidance from a dedicated Skills Development Coach who will be there to ensure that they get the most from their work experience.
